Our school schedules are set! We wanted to inform the parents when their child would be having physical education classes so the child could dress for activity. The Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and Mrs. Thompson’s 6th grade will be having Physical Education on Mondays and Wednesdays. 4th grade, 5th grade, and Mr. Mickelson’s 6th grade will be having Physical Education on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please help your child remember his/her P.E. day so they may dress for activity! Try and remind them to wear good running shoes (no flip flops, sandals or boots please) as well as good activity clothes (no dresses please) on their P.E. day. They will also need to bring some kind of gym shoes to school to be used just for the gym floor. They do not need to be new shoes, they may be old shoes that they clean up and keep at school to be used just for the gym. It is better if your child has some kind of gym shoes. If they do not have gym shoes, they will be asked to take their shoes off, which is not always safe.
Your child will also have a Health class once a week for a semester. Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade will have Health first semester. 4th, 5th and 6th grade will have Health second semester. Fitness tests will be given at the end of each quarter. The students will be tested over the five components of fitness which are: muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, body composition and flexibility. Your child can be working on these five components every day.
Units to be covered this fall are on a 2 to 3 year rotation and are consistent with the Health Enhancement standards which may be found posted in the Health room, gym, or office. Some fun units we will be working on this fall are: Frisbee golf/Ultimate Frisbee, Bocce, Lawn Yahtzee, Speedball, and Bicycle Safety.
