Dear Parents and Guardians,
We were all excited for the presentation that Scott Flatlip put on for us! Scott is a Native American from the Plenty Coups area who just finished his degree in Health Enhancement from Montana State University-Bozeman. We were very fortunate to have him come and present at our school. His presentation consisted of Native American dance, history, culture, regalia and much more. He was fabulous, and Joliet Elementary students continue to practice the Native American dances he taught us.
It’s snowy outside! Please have your students come dressed to play in the snow. In P.E., on good snow days, it is fun to go out and build snow sculptures, go sledding, and play games. I will provide advance notice if the weather is good for sledding. If students are asked to bring sleds, please send plastic or foam sleds only. No metal sleds or snowboards are permitted due to the risks of injury. If students can bring sleds, it is helpful for parents to have the sleds marked with the student’s identity somehow. Hopefully, we can enjoy some of the fluffy, white precipitation coming down during these winter months.
Jump Rope For Heart will be coming up in February. A kick off presentation will take place the first of February. Be looking for parent information in your student’s backpack around the beginning of February.
I am excited about one of the upcoming units in P.E.! Drum Fit is a unit where the students will be practicing rhythm and dance while drumming.
Reminder for all students to gather some gym shoes if they haven’t already. Gym shoes can be old or new athletic shoes that are cleaned up and kept here at school to be used on the gym floor. It is safer for the students, and helps preserve the wooden gym floor when students have appropriate, clean footwear for P.E.
Please encourage your student to be active. A fitness test is administered each quarter, and each student can practice by maintaining their fitness at home. Any type of activity that raises cardio or increases coordination will help each student succeed on the fitness test or in life. Overall fitness is important, and you can help your student succeed.
